Being a Florida girl, I love beaches. We entered Oregon by first stopping at Harris Beach, which was a PAWSOME way to start. My humans had been to this beach before and had told me how beautiful it was, so I made sure I came to explore it. It was the lowest tide of the year and the huge rocks that filled the ocean were now exposed on the beach. I had plenty of room to walk around them and sniff out all of the starfish, crabs, and sea urchins living at the bottom of the rocks.
The next day, we stayed at Bullards Beach State Park in Bandon and the fun continued for two more days. We were parked very close to the beach and the Coquille River Lighthouse. I had a blast hiking to the lighthouse and running on the beach during the day and laying by the campfire at night.
Because I loved hiking to the Bandon Beach lighthouse, my humans decided to spend the whole next day “chasing lighthouses”… humans, right? It turned out to be an awesome day, we saw three different lighthouses along the Samuel H. Boardman scenic corridor and stopped at a lot of scenic overlooks. The first stop was the Cape Blanco Lighthouse; what a fun walk up to the lighthouse. We walked along the path to the top of the mountain, I enjoyed rolling in the grass and the unbelievable views of the ocean from the cliff side. It was sooooo windy, so I watched some kites flying in the sky. The second stop was the Umpqua Lighthouse; which had this giant red chandelier that reflected the sunlight. It was right across the street from a nationally recognized whale watching view point. I did not see any whales, but I spotted all the birds and squirrels. Our last one was the Cape Arago Lighthouse, but it was closed to the public…. so I enjoyed the view of the lighthouse from the cliff which was overlooking a coral reef surrounded by a bunch of barking sea lions. I think my bark was deeper than all of them.
Next stop was Silver Falls State Park and I LOVE THIS PARK. The park was huge with lots of pet friendly hikes that are paved, a shower area, and drinking water station. It even had an off-leash pet exercise area, I got all my zoomies out running through the field of wildflowers. My humans now decided to do a “chasing waterfalls” day, what is happening? Anyways, it happened to be one of my favorite hikes. The Trail of 10 Falls was an eight mile hike that had literally WAY MORE than 10 waterfalls thanks to all of the recent rain. Then, we continued exploring and I saw the tallest waterfalls in Oregon, Multnomah Falls. This waterfall hike was also dog friendly so I tagged along with my humans, I got to walk up to the bridge and look up at the 620 feet tall waterfall. I met some new friends and got to say hello to some friendly humans.
My dad knows I love cheese, so he booked a night on Harvest Host to stay at the Tillamook Cheese Factory. Not only did the have some delicious cheese, but they also had a petting zoo. I got to say hi to peacocks, chickens, roosters, donkeys, goats, llamas, pigs and ducks. I couldn’t sleep all night because that darn peacock kept walking by my front door mocking me with his strange noises.
Because we were still awake from that DARN peacock, my humans watched the movie, The Goonies. So for our last day in Oregon, they decided to have a “Goonies Day”, here we go again. The first stop was at Haystack Rock in Cannon Beach, which was fun because I got to run around on the beach and meet a HUGE crab. I learned crabs don’t like being kissed. Can you believe he pinched me on the cheek when I got in close for a lick?…. whatever. The next stop was the town of Astoria where the movie was made, we hiked down to the beach and saw an old wrecked Pirate Ship that was half way buried in sand. This beach was huge, and because there weren’t a lot of humans my dad took off my leash and I got to run around the beach and play with my toys in the ocean.
Thank you Oregon for allowing me to chase all the waterfalls and run on your beautiful beaches!!!!!
