My goal for this trip was to sniff as many new animals as possible. Therefore, the best way to start off our rainy Washington State trip was by going to Olympic Game Farms. It is a drive-thru Zoo that allows good girls like me to go and meet all the new animals from the comfort of my truck. When we got there, my humans bought some bread to trick the animals into coming closer for a sniff. I said hi to some bison, elk, deer, yaks, peacocks, and lamas. I even got to see an eagle and a bear, but I kept my distance.
Just when I thought it couldn’t get better, my humans took me to Olympic National Park where I was sworn in as a Bark Ranger for the third time on this trip. As always, I wasted no time in starting my ranger duty and quickly hit some dog friendly trails.
My first hike was the Peabody Creek Trail just outside the visitor center, which is about 5.2 miles. We only strolled through the forest for a mile due to the trail being slippery, but I still enjoyed sniffing interesting trees and plants. The next day, I woke up bright and early to continue my job as a Bark Ranger, we started with a beautiful hike to Madison Falls, the hike was short and ended with a beautiful waterfall. Then we went to drink out of the Devil’s Punchbowl via the Spruce Railroad. I met so many new friends while walking on this 2.4 mile out and back trail. I also got to cross over a bride and walk through a very dark and spooky tunnel (I stayed close to my humans), but on the other side of was the Devils Punchbowl. It looked like Gatorade, so I stuck my head down to get a drink and realized it was my favorite drink ever…. water.
After three fun days in the National Park, we headed to Washington Park in Anacortes where we stayed another four nights. The park was on a cliff where whale watching is famous, so I was able to spot a dolphin playing close to shore. We spent days hiking around the park and meeting many new deer friends. For my dad’s birthday, we decided to do something extra fun for me, so my humans took me on a ferry ride to an island called Orca Island. We spent the day exploring the island, eating treats from a store called Pawki’s For Pets and hiking in Moran State Park which is very pet friendly. Since I love dipping my feet in water, we hiked around Cascade Lake. We got to walk out onto some cliffs, exploring through the woods, and even heard some baby eagles in the trees above. The weather was so nice that we decided to continue exploring and ended day by exploring four beautiful waterfalls; Cascade Falls, Rustic Falls, Cavern Falls and Hidden Falls all along one trail.
We ended Washington State trip by staying at a Lavender Farm for one last night that my humans found on Harvest Host.
Thank you Washington State and Olympic National Park, I will not let you down.
